Dear Sebastian
Hey all,
My name is Kyle, Sebastian was my best friend and close creative collaborator. I’m collecting stories, photos and videos of Sebastian.
For now, my goal is simply to stitch all the stories together into a longer video — a collection that brings together memories of Sebastian in one place, an attempt to capture the breadth of his life. Down the line, this may evolve into a larger art project, though I’m not sure what shape that will take yet. I’d also like to make the stories, photos, and videos available to others who might want to create art with them — I think Sebastian would’ve loved that. I’ll also share all the videos, photos, and stories with Caitlin and his family.
What I’m Collecting
1. A short video of yourself sharing something about Sebastian.
A phone video is totally fine—just please record it horizontally (turn your phone on its side). I’d love for each video to be addressed directly to him, starting with the words: “Dear Sebastian”
If it’s helpful, imagine he’s there in the camera lens, listening & smiling back at you.
Here are a few examples to spark ideas:
“Dear Sebastian, I remember the time we were walking through the cherry blossoms in Prospect Park together and you said to me…”
“Dear Sebastian, I’ll never forget the first time I met you…”
“Dear Sebastian, I have a poem I’d like to share with you…”
“Dear Sebastian, I’ve been growing poinsettias in my garden, and this year they’re reminding me of you because…”
“Dear Sebastian, my favorite thing about you always was…”
Feel free to get creative with it—or keep it simple. There’s no pressure to say anything profound. If you have more than one story, feel free to send multiple clips. Just try to keep each story under 3 minutes, and remember to record horizontally.
2. Photos of Sebastian
Up to 20 images—any moments you’d like to share.
3. Videos of Sebastian
Up to 20 clips—phone videos, older footage, anything you have.
4. Anything else that feels connected to him
Writing, artwork, audio recordings—anything you’d like to include.
Timeline & How to Submit
The deadline to submit these stories/photos/videos is May 15. Please upload them here. The form is limited to 10 file uploads, but you can fill it out multiple times. You can also fill out the form without submitting materials, if you just want to stay in the loop. I will send everyone the compilation video when it’s completed. I’ll also share your contact info with Caitlin & Sebastian’s family to keep in touch with you in the future.
